Just Do what Jesus Did
Matthew 4:1-11
1. Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. [Please note: this was the leading of the Spirit of God, later to be compared to Satan taking Jesus to a high place.]
(For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:10-14)
2. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
PRAYER AND FASTING GIVES YOU POWER TO OPERATE IN THE SPIRIT RHELM. Jesus Christ showed use that through prayer and fasting we would be able to:
· Cast out devils, Mark 9:29)
· Quote scripture when needed. Mark 13:11
· To overcome in any, and every situation. 1 John 4:4.
Jesus said that he spoke the words of God the Father only. John 14:10. Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Notice that in the 1st. Temptation: Jesus Spiritual identity was questioned and then he was tempted to satisfy the desires of his flesh in the middle of spiritual warfare.
Matthew 4: 3. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4. But he answered and said,
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Jesus quotes old testament scripture. Deuteronomy 8:2-3 2. And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3. And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
2nd temptation was fivefold: 1. Satan took Jesus to a high place tempting him with the pride of life. It is amazing that Jesus was able to be taken anywhere by Satan, be aware that the same can happen to us. Remember the scripture in 1 John 4:1-3 1. Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 2. Jesus Spiritual identity again was questioned. 3. Then Satan wanted Jesus to kill himself. 4. Then Satan wanted Jesus to tempt God 5. Then Satan tried to use the Holy Scriptures themselves to trick Jesus into obeying him.
5. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7. Jesus said unto him,
It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Now Jesus is tempted with things and idol worship
8. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9. And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10. Then saith Jesus unto him,
Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11. Then the devil leaveth him,
and, behold,
Angels came and ministered unto him.
Purpose: To Show how Jesus defeated his own fleshly temptations and Satan Himself by quoting the word of God, then concluding with a command from Jesus to Satan to "get thee hence!" Jesus is our perfect example if this approach worked for him indeed it will work for us. We are to find our issues in the bible then speak that word to that issue; finnaly after you have done the will of God you stand in need of patience for manifestation of the promise.
Jesus again quotes old testament scripture. Deuteronomy 6:16. Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God, as ye tempted him in Massah
Jesus again quotes old testament scripture. Deuteronomy 26:10 10. And now, behold, I have brought the first-fruits of the land, which thou, O Lord, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the Lord thy God, and worship before the Lord thy God: And 1 Samuel 7:3 ... And prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only:
